LONDON — The new Range Rover has been designed to closely follow the current model’s look, a new teaser picture released by Land Rover shows.
The blurred picture of the flagship SUV’s fifth generation comes ahead of the model’s digital reveal on Tuesday, Oct. 26.
The Range Rover has been one of Jaguar Land Rover’s most profitable vehicles since the current generation was launched in 2012, JLR CEO Thierry Bollore told investors in February.
The new model uses the automaker’s new MLA (modular longitudinal architecture) platform designed to accommodate electric, plug-in hybrid and full hybrid drivetrains.
JLR has confirmed it will make a full- electric Range Rover, but it will not be among the launch models.
Land Rover has previously said it will launch its first electric vehicle in 2024.
JLR design chief Gerry McGovern described the new Range Rover and related Range Rover Sport as “transformational” in the investor call in February, which suggests that the big changes will be made with the technology and interior design of the new models.
“There is nothing else like a Range Rover, and it will continue to be that way. And in fact, our next generation of products will become even more desirable,” he said.
The price of the new Range Rover is expected to increase in a bid to push it closer towards ultraluxury SUVs such as the Bentley Bentayga and Aston Martin DBX
“Land Rover has the equity to push higher in the market,” Bollore said at the investor day.
Land Rover has gradually increased the price of the current model during its nine-year lifespan. The Range Rover currently starts 83,525 pounds ($115,065) in its home market of the UK, up from 73,950 pounds in 2015.
The most expensive model currently is the SVAutobiography long-wheelbase variant with a 5.0-liter V-8 supercharged engine, which costs 174,785 pounds.
The new Range Rover will continue to be built in JLR’s plant in Solihull, England.
